A wonderful way of keeping your little one occupied on a hot summers day
Our little girl loves to draw, paint and express herself with colours and as a mom, I think that’s wonderful! When we paint and draw together, we talk and learn about the different colours and shapes we can use. But often the result is a mess everywhere, including all over her clothes! And that’s kinda annoying! Until we tried painting with ice cubes!
And this little trick is a brilliant way for her to make a mess, but also make sure it’s easy to clean! All the paint supplies we buy, is waterbased, so supposedly it’s easy to clean. And I say “supposedly”, because usually it’s not really THAT easy. Dianna often loses her patience long before we’re done cleaning up and wiping her down. And the fun we’ve just had ends in a bad way, with me being frustrated and her unhappy.
The last month the weather has been crazy hot here in Denmark and so I wanted to try something new: Painting with ice cubes!
Painting with ice cubes
Fun and creative summer entertainment and activity for the whole family! Best of all, it's easy to clean.
- Ice cube tray
- Waterbased acrylic paint in your favourite colours
- A jug of water
- Step 1 Put some paint in each ice cube hole.
- Step 2 Cover with water.
- Step 3 Stir with a toothpick.
- Step 4 Cover the ice cube tray holes with tape.
- Step 5 Poke a toothpick through the tape in each ice cube tray hole.
- Step 6 Freeze for 2-3 hours until the icepaint is frozen solid.
- Step 7 Paint with the icecubes and make a masterpiece!
A piece of advice is to let your kids help you make the colours ready and put the ice cube tray in the freezer while you put them down for their midday nap. The ice cube paints will be ready when the kids are up again from the nap and have had an afternoon snack.
I was pleasantly surprised at HOW MUCH colour the ice cubes yield. I was afraid all the water would have “watered it down”. Dianna LOVED it and just one ice cube tray is more then enough entertainment for 3-4 kids or several afternoons!
